Longarm Quilting Specialist (Part-Time)

In-Studio Production Role

MK Quilts is seeking a detail-oriented, reliable team member to operate professional longarm quilting systems and assist customers during quilt intake and completion.

This role combines machine operation, production workflow, and customer interaction in a structured studio environment.


Primary Purpose

Operate Handi Quilter longarm quilting machines efficiently and accurately using Pro-Stitcher software while providing excellent customer interaction during quilt drop-offs and check-outs.


Employment Structure

Position Type: Part-Time
Schedule: Three days per week. Saturday availability required after the first three months.
Physical Requirement: Standing for most of the workday
Initial Term: One-Month Probationary Period

Continued employment depends on successful completion of training and performance expectations.


Core Responsibility Areas

1. Longarm Machine Operation (Primary)

You will:

  • Operate Handi Quilter longarm quilting machines
  • Use Pro-Stitcher software to run quilting designs
  • Monitor stitch quality, thread tension, and machine performance
  • Complete quilts accurately and on schedule

Success Standard: Quilts are completed cleanly, consistently, and within expected timeframes.


2. Workflow & Time Management (Primary)

You will:

  • Run multiple machines efficiently
  • Manage time to meet customer deadlines
  • Stay organized with quilt queues and job priorities

Success Standard: Multiple quilts are processed smoothly without missed deadlines or workflow confusion.


3. Customer Interaction (Secondary)

You will:

  • Assist customers with quilt drop-offs
  • Review quilt details and expectations at intake
  • Check customers out upon completion
  • Communicate professionally and clearly

Success Standard: Customers feel confident, informed, and well cared for.


Required Qualifications

  • Sewing or quilting experience required
  • Longarm quilting experience not required (training provided)
  • Comfortable learning software and technical processes
  • Access to a tablet or computer at home for tutorials
  • Ability to stand for most of the day
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail

Probationary Period (First Month)

During the first month, you will:

  • Learn Pro-Stitcher software through in-person training and tutorials
  • Learn longarm machine operation and shop procedures
  • Demonstrate ability to manage workflow and follow processes

Successful completion of probation requires:

  • Reliable machine operation
  • Understanding of basic quilting workflow
  • Ability to stay organized while learning
