Travel-Based Field Contractor – Nationwide

MK Quilts is seeking reliable, mechanically capable individuals to join our field team installing longarm quilting machines and frame systems in customer homes and studios across the U.S.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, travel, and helping customers get started with professional quilting equipment.

About the Role

You will travel to customer locations to assemble, level, and install longarm quilting systems. Your job is to ensure the equipment is physically set up correctly, operates smoothly, and the customer is comfortable with the basics before formal training begins.

This is not an advanced repair or engineering position. We value consistency, professionalism, and following proven procedures.

What You’ll Do

System Installation

  • Assemble and level quilting frames
  • Mount and align machine heads
  • Install carriage and track components
  • Mount robotics hardware and tablet systems
  • Route and secure cables safely
  • Verify full-range mechanical movement

On-Site Professionalism

  • Work inside customer homes or studios
  • Protect floors, walls, and work areas
  • Maintain organized, clean work practices
  • Communicate calmly and respectfully

Basic Customer Handoff

  • Show customers how to power the system on/off
  • Explain basic controls and workspace setup
  • Reinforce that formal training follows
  • Represent MK Quilts professionally

Documentation

  • Complete installation checklist
  • Take and submit photos of finished setup
  • Report issues to the Installation Coordinator

Travel Expectations

  • Domestic air travel required
  • Typical assignment: Travel Day → Install Day → Travel Day
  • Hotel stays common
  • Work completed independently at job sites

Physical Requirements

  • Lift 50–70 lbs repeatedly
  • Work on knees and at floor level during assembly
  • Stand and move for extended periods
  • Travel with tools

Important: Scope of Role

This position:

  • Does not require advanced software troubleshooting
  • Does not involve deep electrical repair
  • Escalates complex problems rather than improvising
